11 October 2015Following the restoration and reopening to the public of the Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana, the famous "Square Coliseum" will host the exhibition Una nuova Roma. Eur Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana. The building is an indisputable icon of twentieth century Italian architecture: designed in 1937 by the architects Giovanni Guerrini, Ernesto Bruno La Padula and Mario Romani, the Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana is undoubtedly the symbol of the Eur neighborhood and embodies a complex story which includes the themes of modernity, of social change, and of Italy’s postwar economic miracle. The exhibition explores all these elements through an itinerary that combines architectural visions with avant-garde and contemporary artistic expressions. The exhibition includes drawings, sketches and projects of the major protagonists of twentieth-century Italian architecture, such as Guerrini, Piacentini, and Nervi, as well as great artists, like Prampolini, Sironi, and Severini. An important section of the exhibition illustrates the influence that EUR’s architecture played on great photographers (Basilico, Fontana, Jodice) and film directors (Rossellini, Fellini, Bertolucci, De Sica).
The exhibition, conceived by the Sovrintendenza Capitolina, Assessorato alla Cultura e allo Sport di Roma Capitale, is promoted by FENDI srl and produced in cooperation with EUR S.p.a and with the Istituto Luce Cinecittà. It is curated by professor Vittorio Vidotto and architect Carlo Lococo.
