18 November 2024On the occasion of Milano Design Week 2024 Fondazione Cirulli is pleased to present the exhibition The birth of the modern city: from Antonio Sant'Elia to Ludovico Quaroni. Selection from Fondazione Cirulli Collection, a brief but intense and multifaceted reading of the architectural and urban imagination in the Italian culture of the first half of XX century, recovering the most significant proposals coming from architecture and the figurative arts, through works by Giovanni Guerrini, Osvaldo Licini, Marcello Piacentini, Ludovico Quaroni, Antonio Sant'Elia, Mario Sironi.
The modern city of railway stations and airports, foundries, factory chimneys, gasometers and suburbs designs and establishes the new urban face of the twentieth century. It is "The city that rises", which grows on itself, renewing itself together with the society and the men who compose it.
Artists experience the metropolis as a voracious "organism", indifferent in its continuous and incessant development, or they see it as a joyful "pulsating machine" to be launched at full speed towards the future.
